The NORDi Project

In the NORDi project, NSD is modernising its data archive services and simultaneously developing new tools to make it easier to handle and share research data.

The goal of the project is to increase the value of data, which can partly be done by making the data in NSD's archive easier to find and use.

The tools we develop in the project will make it easier to manage research data in a good and secure way, and share data in line with the FAIR data principles.

NORDi Deliverables

Service/ToolDescriptionStatus
Data Management Plan (DMP) 2.0The updated data management plan has built-in setup assistants/wizards for storage, sharing and archiving based on information about data entered by the researcher. It will also be possible to reuse data from the plan via the API. Delivered
Data Policy ManagerThis tool allows institutions to create machine-readable guidelines for handling research data. The guidelines can thus be read by e.g. NSD's data management plan to provide researchers with customised choices based on the project information.Delivered
DMP overviewProvides institutions with an overview of all data management plans (DMPs) that their researchers have created using the NSD tool. The API allows you to extract specific information to be integrated into other systems.Delivered
Easier data ordering serviceEases the process of ordering data, providing guidance and feedback along the way. Possibility to order several data at the same time and digital signing.Delivered
Curation platformInternal tool. Supports NSD's advisers in documenting and curating data and enables linking different studies. Scheduled for June 2021
Data preservation platformInternal tool. Long-term data storage platform, which preserves quality and is FAIR-compatible for a long period of time (over 10 years). Scheduled for June 2021

Duration

The projects runs until June 2021. Deliverables are published regularly as soon as they are finalised.

Background

NORDi (Norwegian Open Reserach Data Infrastructure) is funded by the Norwegian Research Council via its Research Infrastructure programme.

The project began in 2015 and delivered the following products in its first period: a data management plan (DMP) tool, a data archiving portal and a search service covering several of NSD's collections.

In June 2019, the project was relaunched after a period of restructuring the scope and deliverables. The second stage is founded on new, key guidelines from the Ministry of Research and Education, which came in the form of a new national strategy on access to and sharing of research (in 2017-2018), as well as the European Union report "Turning FAIR into Reality".
